Tesla Adds Extra Cybertruck Shift Before 2027 Line Change

Elon Musk says Tesla will add a shift at Giga Texas to meet Cybertruck orders before the line is dismantled around June or July 2027.

Tesla will add an extra production shift on the Cybertruck line at Gigafactory Texas. The move follows Musk's November 6 statement that the line will be dismantled for Cybercab expansion.

Musk posted on X that the current order backlog exceeds what the factory can build before the planned shutdown. The extra shift aims to complete existing orders in time.

Tesla began customer deliveries on November 30, 2023. It does not report Cybertruck deliveries separately from its Other Models category.

“We will add an extra shift to try to get all orders done in time.”

Tesla Robotaxi App Now Compares Cybercab and Model Y Options

Version 26.11.0 adds a side-by-side vehicle selector showing ETAs, wait times and availability.

Tesla’s Robotaxi app now shows estimated arrival times, expected waits and current availability for Cybercab and Model Y on one screen. Riders compare the figures before booking instead of selecting a vehicle first.

The update follows earlier changes that added seating capacity indicators. It applies mainly in Austin, where both fleets operate, while other markets still use only Model Y vehicles.

Tesla plans to expand Cybercab rides to Dallas this month.

Key facts

  • Version 26.11.0 of the app shows ETAs, wait times and availability for each vehicle option on a single screen.1

Tesla Opens Supercharger in Gatineau, Quebec After Delays

Tesla has opened a new Supercharger in Gatineau, Quebec, after years of delays from its Supercharger Voting program.

Tesla opened the Gatineau Supercharger this week at 425 Boulevard la Vérendrye Ouest with eight V4 stalls. The site first appeared on Tesla's map in October 2021, but an earlier plan at a different address did not proceed and visible construction only started by November 2025.

The station sat idle for nearly a year after posts were installed before Tesla energized it. Charging rates for Tesla owners are $0.26 per kWh from 11 p.m. to 10 a.m. and $0.45 per kWh from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Gatineau joins other Quebec sites opened in 2026 including Sherbrooke, Laval, Quebec City, Drummondville and Mont-Tremblant.

Musk Says Tesla Will Rent Optimus Robots Instead of Selling

Elon Musk said Tesla will likely rent Optimus humanoid robots rather than sell them.

Tesla may not sell Optimus at all. During an interview at the 33rd Annual Baron Investment Conference, Musk said the company will probably rent the robots to customers.

Musk estimated build costs starting around $30,000 per robot and falling toward $20,000. Early production began last month on a Fremont line planned for 1 million units a year, with outside deliveries targeted for the end of 2027.

Tesla plans to deploy Optimus in its own factories first, and an AI5-powered version is expected around April 2027.
